Illythids, also called Mind
Flayers or Devourers by other races, are a subterranean race known
and feared for their extremely powerful mental abilities, known as psionics.
The species has a squid-like appearance. Their skin is usually pink and
four tentacles hang from their face. The rest of their body is humanoid in
form. Illythids are typically between six to seven and
a half feet in height. Further, they are
infamous for their general lack of consideration for other species.
Illythids must feed on the brain of mammals to replenish themselves.
They do so by sucking the brain directly out of their source: even
while their source is alive. Any non-Illythid captured by the species
that isn't used for food typically ends up a slave, mentally dominated
by the mind flayer's powerful mental abilities. Illythids make perfect
magic-users, but really weak warriors.
