Use the links above to find out about ET's Immortals.
About Immortals
Immortals, also known as imms, are the individuals who run a mud.
They are called immortals because they cannot die and because they
have far greater powers than the mortals, the players. The tasks
that imms perform include game-code additions and revisions,
making and enforcing rules, running quests, creating and
overseeing the creation of gaming areas, and assisting clans and
players. There are imms of different ranks, much like there are
mortals of different ranks within a clan, a philosophically-like-minded
group of players. The imms at the top manage the mud in general and
also, like the imms beneath them, perform any of the tasks mentioned
above. The immortals at the top are usually titled imps or
implementors, while those just beneath them are usually called
creators (sub-imps on ET).
In addition to running the mud, imms
roleplay, play a part in the drama of the mud. Imms interact with
mortals, for whom they throw quests. On ET, imms were once involved
with clans, but eventually left them to take on other duties.
Imms also change the mud based on their ideas or on ideas suggested by
players. They are almost always players or ex-players who decided,
for one reason or another, that they wished to help run a mud.
Imming is a job, but one that is satisfying in that it entails the
creation, maintenence and enhancement of a fantasy-world with, based
on the players around, a life of its own.
