Gus, among many others, was an ET character played by Adam Cudmore.
At least I think that Adam was Gus. Anyway, I could only fit a short name on
the mortals web-links.
Adam comes from Australia, as have many ET players,
and
he is an Australian Football referee.
He says that he has played on ET
since 1998.
Whatever, players change their names so many
times that I don't
know them from Adam.
The first time that Adam caught my attention,
and everyone else's, was in 2001.
He was
playing a character named Adok.
He was quite a loud character.
The players seemed to be
quite annoyed by him,
but I found him quite amusing.
He was quite talkative on the public
gossip channel,
which is always nice to see, for it can often
be quiet when players are busy
adventuring.
I remember how he'd, over the gossip channel,
constantly challenge others to fight him.
He didn't care about how powerful someone was;
he just wanted some action.
One day, I saw
him die over fifty times in under ten minutes.
He didn't even get his equipment and heal,
he
just quickly attacked any available meat.
Adam has been penalized many times and
for pretty
much every offence.
I am not saying that he was guilty,
but I am also not saying that he was
innocent.
I am just saying what I said.
I think he was deleted and banned a few times, like Oni.
But of course we let him back.
He started a chaotic-neutral clan, named Havok, in 2002.
Unfortunately, Havok didn't last very
long.
The reasons why it didn't are probably the same as the
reasons why some imms don't last
very long, why some
mud areas never get made, and why any kind of work never
gets done: not
realizing that it requires much time and effort,
discovering that it is not like what you thought it
would be, or
because you never really, really wanted to do it in the first place.
After this, Adam
was still playing quite a bit, but not as much as before.
In the Winter, I heard that he and some
other Australians were banned from ET.
What seems fairly evident is that Australians from his
internet address were constantly causing the game to stop, to crash.
I am not saying that it was
done on purpose; I am just saying what I said.
When the game crashes, it doesn't start again
until someone starts it.
That someone may not learn about the crash until many,
many hours later,
which means that players lose playing time,
so banning certain internet addresses becomes necessary.
Adam appears to have behaved very badly on ET.
So, why have a web page on him?
Well, deep
down, he is a good guy;
he just is very chaotic and emotional.
Also, like him or not, good or bad,
he has made an impact on ET.
Maybe we'll hear from him again some day. Dimi/01/04
